Argwings Otieno

African Young Adult Literature, Winner, 2013

The author is an English Language lecturer at Pwani University. He holds a D.Phil. in Language Education and has also taught at secondary school and teacher training college levels. His love for storytelling was nurtured at the annual Kenya School and Colleges Drama Festival in which he participated for many years as a script-writer and adjudicator. Although born at Oyugis, South Nyanza over four decades ago, he was brought up at Landi Mawe, in Nairobi's Eastlands, and educated at Pumwani Secondary School, also in the city. This probably explains why most of his stories have a modern urban setting. He has written a number of children's books which include, The Head WIthout a Body, Looking for a New King, Alone in a Storm, The Winning Story, Jabali and Scola's Mistake.
