CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS - YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE WORKSHOP FACILITATOR
Are you an experienced author or editor of young adult or children’s literature? Are you keen to share your skills and experience face-to-face with book creators in Africa? If you answered yes, then volunteering for CODE’s Burt Award program is just the opportunity that you’ve been waiting for. You’ll bring inspiration and vital practical skills that will have a long-lasting impact on the local publishing industry, and also gain a memorable experience.
CODE is currently looking for one volunteer to conduct a writing/editing workshop in Tanzania and Ethiopia from approximately February 19 to 28, 2018. The ideal volunteer will have:
- experience either as an editor or writer of young adult literature (fiction and/or non-fiction);
- facilitated a workshop for a group of approximately 15 participants; and
- some international travel experience (preferably to Africa).
CODE and its local implementing partners take great care in planning all volunteer initiatives to ensure volunteers have a safe, productive and enjoyable experience. You will be provided with an orientation package, and have an opportunity to talk to one of the highly acclaimed authors, publishers, and editors who have previously delivered a workshop as part of CODE’s Burt Award program.
CODE and its local implementing partner will help you in arranging for air travel, ground transportation, accommodation, and visa applications. CODE will also cover travel expenses, including food and travel medication.
Following your trip, CODE will request that you provide feedback either verbally or written. This information is helpful in ensuring that improvements to program delivery are made where necessary.
